One-Stop-Shop Legal Services for Private Wealth and Litigation

Charles Russell Speechlys registers as a Hong Kong Law firm offering expert advice to individuals and family-owned business in the city.

Headquartered in London with offices in the UK, Europe and the Middle East, Charles Russell Speechlys (CRS) opened its first Asia office in Hong Kong in 2017 to offer an integrated private client and commercial service to successful entrepreneurial and family businesses, the creators and owners of private wealth and their advisors and financiers. After three years of operation in the city, the firm now takes a step further to register in Hong Kong as a local law firm.

“One-stop-shop” advice for high and ultra-high net worth families in the region

“We remain very positive about the future for Hong Kong and our launch as a Hong Kong firm on 1 December 2020 reflects our commitment to the city and the region,” said Tom Shaw, Charles Russell Speechlys. “There are two areas on which we are focusing. The first is Private Wealth. Our market leading team works with clients to help them to grow, preserve and distribute their wealth through the generations. The advice we provide covers wealth structuring, estate and succession planning involving wills and trusts and philanthropy, personal tax and private property.”

“Our second area of focus is international litigation, dispute resolution and arbitration. We are building a team with both the language and legal skills to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ to advise clients in the region in their own time zone and in their mother tongue on international disputes,” he continued, adding that with the expected continuing rapid growth in the number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWI) in Asia Pacific, as well as the city’s status as the root of many longstanding wealthy families, Hong Kong is the natural choice for the firm’s Asia regional hub.

Additional services also include legal advice on immigration to the UK, investment into residential and commercial properties, UK, French, Swiss and Luxembourg investment funds advice, and buying and investment in UK businesses.

A great place to live and work

CRS’s growth in Hong Kong is focussed on meeting specific client needs. “In the legal field, there are long established local independent firms alongside all the main international powerhouses,” Shaw explained. “We have chosen to enter this mature and sophisticated infrastructure of legal advisers in niche areas where we see we can meet a demand.”

“Hong Kong is compact, vibrant and fun. On the business side everything you need is available and close by so you can meet people easily. It’s the same for leisure. In how many cities can you live where you have access to the world’s best cuisine and other urban treats but also be able to be in the country side or on the beach in no time?” Shaw concluded.
